KAMLOOPS — A Fraser Valley man who killed his girlfriend at an Aberdeen motel four-and-a-half years ago has received his sentence.

In B.C. Supreme Court Friday (Feb. 19), David Miller received a life sentence in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.

Last July, Miller was convicted of second degree murder in the death of Debra Novacluse. The 52-year-old woman’s body was found at the Super 8 Motel on Hugh Allan Drive on August 27, 2016.

In her determination of guilt, Justice Marguerite Church said there was intent from Miller to kill Novacluse, who was found hidden underneath a mattress in a room at the motel, tied up in a sleeping bag.

Crown prosecutor Neil Wiberg had argued for a first-degree murder conviction due to a sexual assault he argued directly led to the death of Novacluse. Justice Church was not convinced.

In addition to the prison term, Miller was given a firearms prohibition and an order to submit his DNA.
