KAMLOOPS — Tk’emlups te Secwepemc Kukpi7 / Chief Rosanne Casimir is urging the public to take every safety precaution, after announcing she tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

In a release, Casimir says she and Council want to remind everyone that COVID-19 does not discriminate, and anyone can catch it. Casimir says she has tested positive for COVID-19, and is currently resting in self-isolation until February 13. She says she is optimistic she will be fully recovered soon.

“I am an example of someone who has kept my bubble small, upheld all the safety precautions, wore a mask, washed my hands, and still caught the virus,” she states in the release, “I am proof that even one person from your household bubble can bring home the virus.”

For those that do have COVID-19, Casimir says it is important to stay mentally focused on rest and be positive.

“You are not alone and have a supportive team at TteS and Q’wemtsín Health Society (QHS) to assist you,” she says, “Take every precaution you can. Continue to practice and limit exposure. Stay home as much as possible. Wear a mask if you must go out to public places and wash your hands frequently. If you are not feeling well, stay home.”

Casimir ends the release by noting that the more the public practices these safe behaviours, the sooner we can limit virus spread and one day get back to normal.
