City warns of icy downtown streets as crews repair water main break
KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is warning drivers of potentially icy conditions in one area of the city’s downtown today (Jan. 23), while crews repair a water main break.
Utilities Services Manager Greg Wightman says around 2 a.m Saturday a water main break was reported in the 200 block of West Battle Street. City crews are on site, but he says some of the water has leaked out on to the roadways.
“The repairs have been a little challenging for sure, we’ve got crews on site right now trying to make the repairs, but there is a lot of ice on the roadways surrounding the break,” Wightman explains, “Water is running down in the direction of 1st Avenue there, and we’re just asking motorists to extremely cautious if they are in that area as the roads may be a little slippery.”
So far only a few residences have had their water shut off, and Wightman says they’re trying to limit the number of homes impacted. However there will be service impacts for the majority of the day.
