Five-hundred new COVID-19 cases in B.C., including 91 within Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded an even 500 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday (Jan. 20), including 91 within Interior Health.

The figures are contained in a prepared statement by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The 500 new cases bring the B.C. total to 62,412, spread throughout the province as follows:

• 14,217 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 125)
• 38,384 — Fraser Health (up by 216)
• 1,338 — Island Health (up by 32)
• 5,465 — Interior Health (up by 91)
• 2,978 — Northern Health (up by 35)
• 135 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

There are 4,345 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Wednesday, up by 14 from Tuesday. A total of 320 people are in hospital with 66 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 1,067 active cases of the virus, up by 12 from Tuesday. There are 30 patients in hospital including seven in critical care.

Fourteen more people have died of the virus, lifting B.C.’s death toll to 1,104. Three of those deaths took place within Interior Health, pushing the regional death toll to 55.

The number of people being monitored due to direct contact with known cases of COVID-19 has reached 6,905.

A total of 55,564 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 89 per cent of all recorded cases.

Meantime, the province says 98,125 of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to British Columbians.
