KAMLOOPS — A special weather statement has been issued today (Jan. 12) for several highways experiencing wet winter conditions in southern B.C.

Environment Canada says a mix of winter weather will be coming through the Interior today, with snow and rainfall expected to bring hazardous driving conditions on high elevation roads.

Area highways impacted by the statement include:

  • Coquihalla Highway – Hope to Merritt
  • Coquihalla Highway – Merritt to Kamloops
  • Okanagan Connector – Merritt to Kelowna

After 5 to 10 cm of snowfall this morning on the Coquihalla Summit, rain will be falling throughout the afternoon before turning to snow overnight. The forecaster says 15 cm of snow is expected to fall on Wednesday (Jan. 13). Allison Pass and Helmer Lake are expecting similar conditions.

Elsewhere, the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna is expected to receive 15 to 25 cm by Wednesday afternoon.

Motorists are advised to take extra caution, as the weather can change rapidly on mountain passes.

Road conditions can be checked online at www.drivebc.ca.
