Full Parole granted for man responsible for fatal boat crash on Shuswap Lake

KAMLOOPS — Full parole has been granted to Leon Reinbrecht, the man behind the wheel of a speeding boat that collided with a houseboat on Shuswap Lake in 2010, killing one person and injuring others.

Full parole comes with two special conditions for Reinbrecht. He can not purchase, possess or consume alcohol or drugs, other than prescribed medication or over-the-counter drugs.

In July 2016, the now 58-year-old Reinbrecht was sentenced to three years for Causing Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence and Causing Death by Criminal Negligence.

The court found Reinbrecht was recklessly driving a boat at night. During the 10 to 15 minute joyride, the boat speed reached 30 to 40 miles per hour and performed zig zags and donuts on the water. The ride ended when the boat crashed into a houseboat, penetrating the interior cabin and killing its operator. Several passengers on the houseboat were seriously injured.
