Yolanda Norine "Lanni" Shupe

Posted Dec 23, 2020 | 5:17 PM

December 29th, 1951 – December 16th, 2020

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Yolanda Norine “Lanni” Shupe, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Born in Prince George, BC, on December 29th, 1951. Lanni passed away at the age of 68 in the presence of Terry, her loving husband of 47 years, at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC, on December 16th, 2020.

She married Terry Shupe in 1973, and together they lived in Kamloops. They built a home and moved to Cherry Creek in 1980, raising 3 children, many cats, and other animals. Lanni and Terry moved back into Kamloops in 2017 where Lanni spent her time volunteering at the United Church, walking Baxter, their beloved dog and enjoying life to its fullest with her beloved Terry.

Lanni was a creative, artistic woman with a zest for life. Her love for the dramatic brought her to the stage of WCTC where she took on many roles as an actress and director who gave her actors a canvas to play and explore their creative space. She was dedicated to WCTC from its conception and worked hard to make the visions of live theater come alive on the stage. Lanni retired from theater in 2008 but was called back to direct one more time in 2009 on the production of Miracle Worker. Lanni was a presence on stage as she was in life, full of love for others and going above and beyond for the ones she cared for. Lanni was an active, passionate, and devoted member of the Mt. Paul United Church. She put her love and compassion into her beliefs and delivered sermons that were touching and heartfelt.

Lanni was predeceased by her parents Bob and Margaret McInnes and daughter Elle. Lanni is survived by her devoted husband, Terry Shupe, her father’s second wife, Theda McInnes, sisters Wendy Mikkelson (Alan Watkin) and Carol McInnes (Lorn Shire), sons Philip and Shaun Shupe (Shauna). She will be dearly missed by all 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Special thanks from Lanni’s loved ones to the physicians and nurses at Royal Inland Hospital, especially the nursing staff from 6th South that made it possible for her two sons to see her, and for Terry to be with her in her final hours. We thank them very much and will hold each of them in our hearts for what they did for our family.

The Family has decided to hold off on having a celebration of life until we can gather as a group once more safely.

LANNI MCINNES SHUPE

Her eyes

sky clear

unswervingly direct

in the observant face

engaged wholly in what is read

and said

Response

to the other mouth

like the flash of a sleek fish

leaping from the long stillness of a pond

Actions

without comment

done for themselves

as an animal pads its way

through the thick mulch of the forest

Much for the other

little for herself

the quiet accomplishments

no recognition needed

So her life beyond the stage

But in the multicolored light

on the familiar floor

before the dusty cavern

subtle in its shuffling sounds

like those on the beach of a quiet sea

what absorbed before now blazes fierce

lighting the new-born scene

with force of mask and personality

and uttered meaning

to provoke laughter

to instill tears

to shine on one creature

among the crowd that she has shown

over the punctuated years

Let the applause roar

For all her lives

-Carl Hare
