COVID-19 case found at Overlander Long Term Care

Dec 19, 2020 | 9:45 AM

KAMLOOPS — Staff, residents, and families with loved ones in Overlander Long Term Care are being advised of a COVID-19 case at the facility.

CFJC Today has obtained an email from management to residents and family members, which states there has been one case identified, and an investigation is ongoing.

According to the email, “Interior Health is working with the management team at Overlander through this investigation and steps are being taken to protect the health of all residents and staff.” The email does not state whether it was a staff member or resident who tested positive.

As a result, enhanced control measures will be put into place to minimize the risk of spread while the investigation and monitoring is underway. These may include temporary restrictions to group activities and non-essential services, and pausing single designated visits and non-urgent appointments. Management states it will notify families of any cancelled visitation.

All staff, individuals in care, and their families are being closely monitored for symptoms. Residents and staff who were exposed and considered close contacts will be contacted by IH Public Health and asked to isolate for 14 days, and Overlander says it will report these to Interior Health for follow up and monitoring.

Family members wishing to inquire about a resident are asked to contact Overlander through the family hotline at 250-554-2323, option 8.
