Four COVID-19 cases identified at New Afton mine
KAMLOOPS — New Gold’s New Afton mine just west of Kamloops has reported four cases of COVID-19, but says operations at the mine are continuing as normal.
In a news release, company spokesman Samuel Numsen says a single case was identified on Saturday (Dec. 12) in a contractor employed at the mine. In the subsequent days, three more individuals within the first person’s working group also tested positive for the virus.
New Afton says the four all work in the same self-contained group. All four are isolating, along with their families and close contacts.
Numsen says the workspace has been thoroughly sanitized and all of New Afton’s employees have been informed of the positive cases.
