Vaccination delivery for Interior projected by early next week

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health says the details are still being ironed out, but the COVID-19 vaccine should arrive in the region early next week.

In a technical briefing today (Dec. 16), IH Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Albert de Villiers says the distribution schedule is still being put together, but vaccines will soon arrive in the Interior.

“For today the only thing that we can confirm is that it will start as it did in the Fraser Health Authority and Vancouver Coastal with healthcare workers, and the specific details will be presented to you as soon as we develop them. We are submitting our plans as we speak to government and we just want to make sure everything is in place.”

When vaccines are widely distributed, Dr. de Villiers says health authorities will be looking into providing people with an easily accessible resource if proof of vaccination is required for certain activities.

“I know some of the travel agencies and airlines were talking about maybe having people have proof before they can fly. I’m not sure whether they’re going to go there — I mean that’s up to them,” he notes, “But at this stage we will keep tracking internally and you will be able to get a record at that point that you have been vaccinated.”
