Shooting report sees RCMP rush to home on Tk’emlups Reserve

TK’EMLUPS — No one was hurt but several arrests were made after a shooting call on the Tk’emlups Reserve Wednesday morning (Dec. 9).

RCMP were called to a home in the 700-block of East Shuswap Road at about 9:30 a.m. after the report of a man who had been shot.

Mounties stormed the area and set up containment around the home. Occupants of the home were called out one at a time and taken into police custody.

Once the home was cleared, officers moved in and seized two pellet guns. They concluded that no one had been injured.

A man who was cleared from the home was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant on an unrelated matter. He was taken to RCMP cells and processed for court at a later time.

“Our initial response to a potentially high-risk call will always be to err on the side of caution until we can determine otherwise,” said Sgt Darren Michels in a news release. “Our response is always measured and includes an ongoing risk assessment as it is easier to scale back a response, than scale up. We do this to ensure public and police safety.”
