KAMLOOPS — Local MLAs Todd Stone and Peter Milobar have both secured roles in the BC Liberals shadow cabinet.

Interim leader Shirley Bond named Todd Stone the Critic for Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation on Monday (Nov. 30).

As the pandemic continues to take a toll on businesses and their employees, economic recovery will be a major topic in the legislature for quite some time.

Stone says the role will require him to hold the government accountable while remaining open to collaboration.

“I’m also excited about bringing forward ideas and solutions,” Stone said, “and I think I’ve demonstrated in other roles that I’ve had over the last couple of years that I do believe there’s a place for working together and encouraging good ideas from all corners of the legislature. I certainly hope that’s also the approach that the new minister takes.”

Peter Milobar has been handed the role of Critic for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. In addition, he has been named the Opposition House Leader.

“Really, you’re coordinating with the other house leaders,” Milobar said, “so Mike Farnworth and Sonia Furstenau, around the overall flow of the legislative calendar, making sure our strategy for question period is well laid out, and making sure that debates and things of that nature are strategized as to how long we’ll debate something and move other bills forward.”

Milobar says he is excited about the role.
