Two New Afton mine workers test positive for COVID-19

KAMLOOPS – Two people working at NewGold’s New Afton mine near Kamloops, have tested positive for COVID-19.

New Afton says the workers test results came back Friday and Saturday. The infections are not linked. The individuals are self-isolating.

New Afton says it initiated contact tracing procedures immediately and have notified all direct contacts. Those individuals are now self-isolating for 14 days.

In addition the mine’s hazardous materials team has sanitized the work areas of the two individuals with a disinfectant fogger system.

It says all employees of the mine have been notified of the cases.
