B.C sets new daily COVID-19 case record with 941 cases in 24 hours

VICTORIA — British Columbia reached a grim milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic today (Nov. 24) with 941 new cases recorded in a single day.

According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, there are now 7,732 active cases in the province. There were 49 new cases recorded within the Interior Health region, for a total of 1,356.

Interior Health says there are now 302 active cases in isolation, with two people in hospital (none in ICU).

B.C’s death toll has grown by 10 for a total of 358 virus-related fatalities since the pandemic began. Hospitalizations rose to 284 with 61 people in intensive care. Currently, 10,283 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

There have been 28,348 cases in B.C since the start of the pandemic. 19,605 of the total cases have recovered.

In a statement today Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says people need to make immediate changes to limit their social interactions to combat this spike in cases.

“We need to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our province and that needs to happen now. That is why we have paused all gatherings, events and indoor group fitness activities,” she explains, “That is also why everyone, young and old, needs to pause their social interactions and increase their layers of protection and stay within their local communities as much as possible.”
