Brocklehurst man who beat teen with a baseball bat in 2016 denied parole

KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops man who brutally beat a teenager with a baseball bat in 2016 has been denied parole.

In a decision dated October 26, the Parole Board of Canada said Kristopher Teichrieb has not “fully expressed insight and accountability” into his attack on Jessie Simpson.

Simpson had been drinking and celebrating the end of the school year in June, 2016 when he stumbled into Teichrieb’s Brocklehurst yard by mistake.

The attack left Simpson with permanent, serious brain damage. He will require 24-hour care for the rest of his life.

Teichrieb was sentenced to three years, eight months in jail for aggravated assault. He began serving the sentence in October, 2018.

In denying Teichrieb both full and day parole, the board told him the “positive elements” in his case are outweighed by the negative.

It describes the 43-year-old’s behaviour as entitled and high-maintenance. It relays impressions from Teichrieb’s case management team that describe him as more concerned with consequences to himself than Simpson.

The board goes on to say Teichrieb exhibits a “high level of impression management and some level of over-confidence”.
