Interior Health experiencing high demand for flu shots

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health says people are getting the flu shot in higher numbers this fall.

Medical Health Officer Dr. Carol Fenton says 30 per cent more doses of the vaccine were ordered in anticipation of higher demand. Those have now all been spoken for.

Fenton says the flu shot is especially necessary this year to prevent overwhelming the healthcare system during the pandemic.

“I understand some people may be frustrated that they’ve missed out on their dose,” she said. “If they’re in a high-risk category they can try to call Public Health and see if they can get in, otherwise we hope that the COVID-prevention measures will also prevent the spread of the flu.”
