Police watchdog ends probe into October Brocklehurst incident

KAMLOOPS — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) says it will cease its investigation into an incident involving Kamloops RCMP last month.

The incident took place October 14 at a residential building in the 1800-block of Greenfield Avenue in Brocklehurst.

Mounties responding to a request for help with an elderly woman’s behaviour said the woman answered the door holding a weapon. When an officer took the weapon from her, she was injured.

The IIO investigates when people are killed or seriously injured in encounters with police.

In stopping its investigation into this particular incident, the IIO says it reviewed medical evidence and found the woman’s injury is not serious enough to be considered under that definition.
