KAMLOOPS — Mounties foiled an attempted child abduction that began in Kamloops Monday (Nov. 2).

According to a news release, RCMP were alerted to an abduction at about 2:00 p.m. yesterday. The biological parents allegedly forced their way into a home, assaulted a worker and took the child before fleeing in a vehicle.

Believing that the parents would be heading south down the Coquihalla Highway, RCMP fanned out information to other detachments.

Central Interior Traffic Services members spotted the parents were spotted and took them into custody near Merritt, but the child was not with them.

RCMP learned that the child was with the biological grandfather in a different vehicle. Police were able to contact the grandfather and he agreed to bring the child to the Hope RCMP detachment.

Sgt. Darren Michels says “the child was in good spirits and was returned to the caregivers.”

The child’s father, 38, and mother, 37, are facing a series of charges.
