MERRITT, B.C. — RCMP in Merritt say a raid last week on an unauthorized cannabis grow operation resulted in the destruction of more than 100,000 plants.

According to a news release, the grow op was discovered along Highway 8 in the Merritt area. There was no Health Canada authorization for cannabis or hemp to be grown on the rural property.

Mounties went in with a search warrant last Friday (Oct. 30), destroying more than 100,000 plants with a dried-and-processed value of $8 million.

RCMP say the 2018 legalization allows an adult to grow four plants for personal use. Anyone who grows more than that can be prosecuted under the Federal Cannabis Act.
