Blazers host Kamloops minor hockey players during Pro-D Day from school

KAMLOOPS — What better way to spend a Pro-D day than gear up, lace up, and skate with two of the most popular Kamloops Blazers — Logan Stankoven and Orrin Centazzo. The Blazers hosted a one-day camp for minor hockey players who had the day off from school.

“It’s really fun to play with those players because they teach me a lot and it’s really good,” said Macklin Pullen.

Nixon Kennedy added, “I really look up to both of them and they’re really fun players. My brother gets me tickets for all the Blazer game.”

“It’s really fun. I really look up to them and I watch their games all the time,” noted Colton Buckingham.

For the Kamloops native Stankoven, who will be entering his 17-year-old season, it’s special to give back to the kids on his community.

“When I heard about the camp, I wanted to help out right away,” he said. “I know lots of these kids look up to us as role models, so making sure they enjoy the camp and have a fun time on the ice is important.”

Blazers head coach Shaun Clouston tried to make the one-day camp as fun for the kids as possible.

“You want them to have some fun. Get their feet moving, work on some puck-handling, turn some things into games, so that they’re competing and having fun,” said Clouston, entering his second season as Blazers’ bench boss. “Towards the end of the first session, we added OC and Logan into the game and the kids really got a kick out of it.”

Stankoven added, “It’s really cool to see their smiles. It looked like they were having fun. That’s the main thing — make sure they have a good time and that they learn and enjoy the camp.”
