KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: The Coquihalla is now closed in both directions between Merritt and Hope, and a travel advisory has been put in place for the highway between Kamloops and Merritt.

EARLIER: Heavy wet snow is making for difficult driving conditions Friday morning (Oct. 23) in the Thompson-Nicola regions.

DriveBC is reporting the closure of the Coquihalla Highway to southbound traffic following incidents involving commercial vehicles.

The highway is closed between Hope and Merritt. It’s not clear when the highway will reopen.

Highway cams show snow is covering the highway.

Environment Canada has snowfall warnings in place from Hope to Kamloops with up to 15 cm of snow expected.

In Kamloops, roads are slick from heavy wet snow, making the morning work commute slow. Emergency officials have been called to several incidents.
