Arrest of prohibited driver results in several 100 Mile House Mounties injured

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — Several 100 Mile House RCMP officers were hurt as they arrested a prohibited driver last week.

According to an RCMP news release, an officer was on regular patrol in the Lone Butte area Friday night at about 11:30 when the officer saw a Ford Explorer with two different license plates driving eastbound.

When the officer tried a routine traffic stop, the driver continued on.

A while later Mounties saw the same vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 24. This time, an officer tried blocking the highway, but the vehicle drove around the patrol car using the highway’s shoulder.

Suspecting impairment, officers tracked the vehicle to a home on Blueberry Road. When Mounties pulled into the driveway, the Explorer sped toward them in reverse before veering off into a wooded area and launching into a shallow swamp.

The driver was arrested and taken to cells, where RCMP say he fought officers during the booking-in procedure, resulting in minor injuries to all of the officers involved.

The 34-year-old Surrey man was a prohibited driver “with an extensive criminal history,” and is now facing a series of new charges, including possession of weapons and assaulting a peace officer.
