Early morning fire razes North Shore duplex

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) crews got a quick handle on a North Shore duplex fire Monday morning (Oct. 19).

Platoon Capt. Wade Lindoff says KFR crews were called at about 5:20 a.m. to a fire in the 400-block of Hilltop Avenue, involving one unit of a duplex.

“The unit was fully involved when the crews arrived,” Lindoff told CFJC Today. “They did achieve a quick knockdown. It was defensive in nature, meaning we did not send crews into the fire initially.”

Lindoff says firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the adjoining unit.

There was no one in the building at the time and no one was injured.

“The occupants of the other unit will likely be able to stay in that unit. It is liveable,” said Lindoff. “It’s just the one unit involved with the fire, the people are not able to return to that unit.”

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the blaze. While the scene was left with RCMP, Lindoff says that doesn’t necessarily mean the cause is suspicious in nature.

“Our investigators were at the scene as well and they’re looking at the circumastance to see if it was, in fact, suspicious or not. For now, it’s just a presence being there just to secure the scene,” said Lindoff.
