KAMLOOPS — Residents throughout the Brocklehurst neighbourhood in Kamloops say they were kept awake last night by some unexpected noise.

Multiple social media reports this morning (Oct. 17) cited consistent hammering sounds coming from the nearby Trans Mountain work site – which carried overnight into the early morning hours.

In an email to CFJC Today, Trans Mountain says work is ongoing in the Thompson River area. TMX says one of the steps to insert the pipe under the river includes pulling the pipe from one side of the river while hammering on the other end of the pipe.

The company says this work unfortunately ran late on Friday night. It says it is aware of the noise impacts the hammering work had on local residents, and apologizes for the disruption.

Trans Mountain says the hammering could continue on Sunday (Oct. 18) and throughout the following days, however this activity will now be limited between the hours of 7 a.m and 10 p.m.
