SD73 reports record interest in trades programs

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson School District says enrolment in several of its Trades and Transitions programs is at record levels.

According to a news release posted to the SD73 website, there are 105 students registered in the Youth Work in Trades program. The previous record high was 89 students.

The district notes there is also record participation in the Hairstyling and Trades Sampler.

District Vice-Principal Rob Wielgoz says the interest in trades programs is encouraging, especially considering the pandemic uncertainty in spring led to an apparent decrease in interest.

“We are hearing from families, and there appears to be a hunger for experiential learning, almost as a response to the pandemic,” said Wielgoz in the release.

Appropriate health and safety measures are in place to ensure students and staff can take part in the programs while guarding against the spread of COVID-19.
