Kamloops’ September weather hotter and drier than normal

KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada says this past September was notably warmer, and drier than usual for the Kamloops region.

Looking at the final data for last month, Meteorologist Mike Gismondi says September weather had minimal rainfall, and temperatures consistently stayed above average.

“The average temperature in September was 17.9, and the normal is about 15.5. And that came in as the sixth warmest on record,” notes Gismondi, “As far as precipitation, you had just under 5 mm of precipitation for the month, and the normal is about 29 mm. So that was about 16 per cent of normal, so quite a bit drier but just breaking in to the top ten, it came as tenth.”

While the seasonal forecast is calling for a cool, wet autumn, Gismondi says it likely won’t be as drastic in the Kamloops area. Scattered showers throughout Sunday(Oct. 4) aren’t expected carry into the rest of the week.

“Generally for the next few days you’re going to be pretty dry,” he explains, “Heading into the early part of October, it doesn’t look like you’re on track for that (precipitation) just yet.”
