COUNTERFEIT HAND SANITIZER

Health Canada warns of recalled counterfeit hand sanitizer

Oct 3, 2020 | 1:16 PM

OTTAWA — Health Canada says a counterfeit version of an approved hand sanitizer is being recalled.

The agency says 1L bottles of counterfeit Zytec Germ Buster hand sanitizer have been identified in the market, and urges people to stop using it. Health Canada says since the counterfeit product is unauthorized and made with an unknown formulation, it may not be effective at killing bacteria and viruses, and could pose serious health risks.

The counterfeit sanitizer is packaged in 1L bottles with a black and white label which displays the same name, same NPN (80015625), and the same lot number (3329733126) as the authorized product.

However the authorized Zytec Germ Buster Hand Sanitizer has a coloured label, and is only available in a 3.78L format.

According to Health Canada’s website, Northern National Sales Inc. was found to be selling the counterfeit products, and has been directed to recall it from the market.

Health Canada notes that further action will be taken against Northern National Sales Inc. if continues to sell the counterfeit sanitizer.
