KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson School District is throwing its carbon neutral capital plan under the bus.

District 73 says it will add a new electric school bus to its fleet early next year. This will be one of 13 districts in B.C. to pilot the electric vehicles, testing how they work in adverse weather and diverse topographical terrain.

The 76-passenger bus will join the district’s fleet of 84 diesel-powered buses. Funding comes from two government ministries, the Association of School Transportation Services of B.C. as well as District 73.

Additionally, the district’s Board of Education has approved $65,000 to build an electric bus charging station. It is slated to be complete at the end of March, 2021.
