B.C. Greens name candidates in Kamloops-North Thompson, Fraser-Nicola

KAMLOOPS — The B.C. Green Party has nominated a pair of new candidates in the Kamloops area ahead of the October 24 provincial election.

Thomas Martin will represent the party in Kamloops-North Thompson. He will go up against incumbent B.C. Liberal Peter Milobar and NDP challenger Sadie Hunter.

Martin is a Vancouver native and first moved to Kamloops in 2011 to become a wildfire fighter. At present, he works for Vernon-based Cabin Resource Management as a wildfire project manager.

He says the Green Party’s approach to forestry was what first attracted him.

“In general, the Greens really strive for evidence-based decision making,” Martin told CFJC Today. “They are very open to new ideas, especially ideas that are based on evidence, ideas that are ecologically-centred and community-driven.”

Coincidentally, Martin and his fiance will be married on election day. The COVID-19 pandemic altered the couple’s original plan for an August wedding, and the October 24 date was chosen for a civil ceremony long before the election was called.

“This is a very inconvenient election for a lot of people — especially for myself and my fiance,” Martin said.

Meantime, the party has also nominated Jonah Timms as its candidate in Fraser-Nicola.

Timms will face B.C. Liberal incumbent Jackie Tegart and NDP candidate Aaron Sumexheltza.
