KAMLOOPS — The BC NDP will officially announce its Kamloops-North Thompson candidate for the 2020 election Monday (Sept. 28), but it appears the cat is out of the bag.

In a candidate list briefly posted to the BC NDP website Sunday evening, the candidate in Kamloops-North Thompson was listed as Sadie Hunter. According to Global BC’s Richard Zussman, the list was amended to omit Hunter a short time after it was published.

The party has planned a news conference for 10:00 a.m. Monday at McDonald Park.

Hunter did not immediately confirm her candidacy to CFJC Today.

A first-term Kamloops city councillor, Hunter finished seventh in the running for eight council spots in the 2018 municipal election.

The only other candidate who has announced their intentions to run in Kamloops-North Thompson is incumbent Peter Milobar of the B.C. Liberals.

In 2017, both Milobar and former Kamloops councillor Donovan Cavers took unpaid leaves of absence from council in order to run in that year’s provincial election.
