PRINCE GEORGE – Update: The City of Prince George has confirmed that Kathleen Soltis has ended her term as City Manager.

“After 34 years of service to the City of Prince George, including the last five as City Manager, Kathleen Soltis has reached a mutual agreement with Council to end her employment contract,” read a City news release.

“Ms. Soltis started her employment with the City in 1986 as a personnel officer. She served in multiple management roles and as city manager, led the 2017 referendum for a new downtown pool and fire hall.”

In a statement, Soltis says “it was an honour and privilege to serve in the local government of my community and I’m particularly proud to have been part of a team with all of the City staff who go about their work each and every day. Their work is often invisible but what they do contributes so much to making Prince George such a great place to live.”

Mayor Lyn Hall has weighed in noting that “on behalf of Council, I’d like to express my appreciation to Kathleen for her dedication, years of service in many key roles, and committment to Prince George. We wish her well in her future endeavours.”

The City says Walter Babicz, General Manager of Administrative Services, is now Acting City Manager. Ian Wells, General Manager of Planning and Development, is Acting Deputy City Manager.

Earlier: Multiple sources have confirmed to CKPG Today of some significant changes at City Hall.

Kathleen Soltis, who has been the City Manager for the City of Prince George since March of 2015, has been placed on administrative leave following a special meeting of Council Monday night.

When she replaced Beth James in 2015, she had held the position of City Manager on an interim basis on a number of occasions.

However, details about what that means for City Hall remains unclear, nor are there details coming from City Hall about the next steps.
