BC records 91 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

KAMLOOPS — BC health officials are reporting 91 new cases of COVID-19 in the province today (Sept. 23), with no new deaths.

In a release, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there are 1,376 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

62 people are hospitalized, 18 of whom in intensive care. Dr. Henry notes that 3,368 people are under active public health monitoring after exposure to known cases.

No new deaths have been recorded, which keeps B.C’s COVID-19 death toll at 277 lives lost.

Interior Health (IH) notes that four new cases were reported overnight, for a total of 515 cases since the pandemic started.

There are 31 active cases in isolation, with no one hospitalized. No IH resident cases are currently associated to the Teck Coal Mines outbreak declared on August 27.

Today’s data brings the provincial total to 8,395 cases since the pandemic began in B.C., spread through the province as follows:

  • 3,016 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 32)
  • 4,302 — Fraser Health (up by 48)
  • 203 — Island Health (unchanged)
  • 515 — Interior Health (up by 4)
  • 273 — Northern Health (up by 7)
  • 86 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

On the recovery side, 6,769 people who tested positive have since recovered.

“There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, and outbreaks at Bear Creek Villa independent-living facility and Normanna long-term care facility have been declared over. In total, nine long-term care or assisted-living facilities and five acute-care facilities have active outbreaks.” states the release.

No new community outbreaks have been recorded, however there continues to be community exposure events.
