Residents reminded of Sept. 30 penalty deadline for late property tax payments, grant claims

KAMLOOPS — If you haven’t yet paid your 2020 property taxes, the City of Kamloops says you’ve got a week to do so before another penalty will be applied.

The second extended penalty date runs until the end of the month. Property owners who pay on or before September 30 will avoid an additional 5 per cent penalty.

Residents are also urged to claim any Home Owner Grants, as outstanding tax amounts relating to the grants will be penalized 10 per cent on October 1.

Due to COVID-19, city council had approved an extension to the property tax penalty dates, along with dividing the normal 10 per cent penalty between two dates in July and October.

Payment options can be found online at Kamloops.ca/PropertyTax. Property owners can also call the city directly at 250 828-3437.

City Hall is open for in-person payment weekdays from 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. Drop boxes are also available at City Hall, or at the North Shore Community Policing Office (915 7th Street).

Those who pay in person are asked to respect staff at city hall, follow physical distancing markers, and sanitize their hands before entering.
