VIDEO: Second fraud attempt using Tk’emlups chief’s identity prompts warning

KAMLOOPS — Tk’emlups te Secwepemc Chief Rosanne Casimir is advising band members of another fraud attempt using her name.

In a video posted to the Tk’emlups website, Casimir says this attempt involved an email from an account purporting to be hers. It originated from “chiefexecuive@gmail.com” (note the spelling error in the email address).

The email requests recipients purchase gift cards in $50 and $100 denominations, scan the barcodes and send them back to the emailer.

Casimir says the matter has been referred to RCMP for followup and she thanks members for reaching out to alert her to the scam.

She notes this incident follows another impersonation attempt and a recent breach of the Tk’emlups servers that disrupted the band’s entire operation. That issue has been fixed.
