Quesnel RCMP respond to several firearm related calls in under a week

QUESNEL— RCMP in Quesnel were kept busy responding to several firearm related calls including a drive by shooting.

In just under a week, Quesnel RCMP have responded to three firearm related calls. The first took place on Sept.16 close to midnight when a man nearly sustained injuries during a targeted shooting, while sitting in his vehicle on the 200 block of Reid St.

Further RCMP investigation led police to discover that a late model Honda Accord-style sedan had driven past the victim, firing one shot from a high powered rifle, narrowly missing the victim. Police say the man was not injured and the investigation is ongoing.

On Sep. 17 at around 2:55 a.m., Quesnel RCMP received a report that a man had entered an apartment building on Abbott Drive with a rifle. Security footage revealed that the man attempted to hide the firearm in the hallway ceiling tiles. When police arrived they were unable to locate the suspect, but seized the SKS assault rifle.

RCMP later identified the man involved as Lane Elkins, a 23-year-old Quesnel resident, and on September 18 police took him into custody where he was remanded. Elkins will appear in court today (Sept.21).

On Sept.18 at around 5:46 p.m., the Quesnel RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call that a female was being held against her will in a residence on Allard St. When police arrived at the residence they proceeded to make a forced entry and arrested 28-year-old Sakasinin Charlie-Tom.

A search warrant was obtained for the home and police seized a loaded 12 gauge shotgun and a loaded MP5 assault rifle. Charlie-Tom was charged with assault, forcible confinement, and firearm related charges. He also has two outstanding search warrants out of Prince George.

Quesnel RCMP say they have seized over 17 firearms in the month of September from people associated to the local drug trade.
