VERNON, B.C. — A Vernon woman is facing charges related to alleged thefts of mail packages and ornamental lawn displays from residential properties.

Police were alerted to several incidents between Sept. 9 to 11.

“A member of the public provided police with video surveillance from one of the thefts. This evidence provided police a description of a crime vehicle and of the suspect,” said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer.

That led to a traffic stop in the early hours of Sept. 12.

“While conducting patrols for the suspect vehicle, a frontline officer located the vehicle travelling on 25th Avenue. The officer initiated a traffic stop and recognized the driver as the suspect from the video,” stated Terleski.

The driver was arrested and a search of the vehicle resulted in additional stolen property being recovered.

A 45-year-old Vernon woman faces charges of theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property. She was released from custody pending her next court appearance.

“Whenever we receive information from the public, it is reviewed, analyzed, and shared amongst our staff,” said Terleski. “It is important for the public to report information to us. No matter how small they may think it is, it could be an important piece of a much larger puzzle. This is a great example of how intelligence led policing supports our operations.”
