CHASE, B.C. — The Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band (LSLIB) east of Chase is notifying the public of a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in the community.

In a bulletin posted to social media, the band says it has activated its emergency operations centre and is working with Interior Health and the First Nations Health Authority. It says contact tracing is underway.

It’s believed this is the same case that resulted in the closure of the Skwlax Centre gas station on Squilax Anglemont Road. The station is owned and operated by the LSLIB.

According to a notice to Adams Lake sawmill employees from its employer Interfor, the individual was at work stocking shelves at the gas station for one-to-two hours early on the morning of Sept. 10.

Interfor says Interior Health has allowed the band to reopen the gas station after deep cleaning, but the band has chosen to keep the station closed for the time being.

Anyone who has been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case is asked to self-isolate and will be contacted by public health.
