KAMLOOPS — The United Way’s annual Kickoff Campaign Breakfast is not happening in person this year, but the organization that helps non-profits in the region is conducting an online event in a couple of weeks.

Tickets for the United Way’s Sunrise Kickoff on Oct. 1 can be purchased starting on Monday (Sept. 14). While it won’t be the same atmosphere as you eat your breakfast from home, the money raised is just as needed, especially during a global pandemic.

“It’ll be a lot of fun. Very different than other years, but the purpose is the same. This is our big launch into the campaign for 2020, and that campaign is raising money for our community, the charities that are right here in our region and this is how we kickstart it,” said interim executive director of the Thompson-Nicola-Cariboo (TNC) United Way Katie Neustaeter.

The TNC United Way distributes funds to more than 50 non-profits in the region. The organization says the reason for holding the event virtually is twofold: firstly, to avoid gathering, and secondly giving space for other non-profits to hold small events during what has been a difficult year.

“We want to create as much space as possible in this challenging environment for charities to have their own event,” said Neustaeter. “The whole purpose of United Way is to serve vulnerable people and make sure that those who serve them can do their work.”

To purchase tickets to the Sunrise Kickoff, you can visit the Thompson-Nicola-Cariboo United Way’s website.
