COVID-19 takes six lives in B.C. over the weekend; 317 new cases in B.C. including eight in Interior

VICTORIA — It has been a deadly weekend in B.C. as cases of COVID-19 continue to be recorded across the province.

In a news conference Monday (Sept. 14), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry revealed there were six more deaths due to COVID-19 over the past three days, bringing the provincial total to 219.

Five of those who died were residents in the long-term care system in the Lower Mainland. The sixth was a resident of Northern Health, the first death in that region.

Henry announced the province has recorded 317 new cases of the virus — 137 on Saturday, 119 on Sunday and 61 more on Monday. Four of the cases were epidemiologically linked to known COVID-19 cases.

That brings the provincial total to 7,279 COVID-19 cases recorded during the pandemic, spread through B.C. as follows:

There are now 1,594 active cases in the province, including 58 people in hospital — 28 in Fraser Health, 22 in Vancouver Coastal, seven in Northern Health and one person who lives outside of Canada. There are 16 people in critical or intensive care.

Interior Health says there are 17 active cases in this region — with no one in hospital.

Public health officials are monitoring 3,047 people because they have been exposed to known COVID-19 cases.

A total of 5,446 people are considered fully recovered, or 75 per cent of total known cases.

There have been no new outbreaks but five outbreaks have been declared over — four in the healthcare system and one at Okanagan Correctional Centre in Oliver.
