Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association arena resurfaced thanks to community collaboration

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association (KTRA) has a newly-resurfaced outdoor riding arena, thanks in part to the efforts of FortisBC.

The association’s facility near the Kamloops Airport added a second arena in 2012 to help when flooding occurs on the low-lying land.

In a news release, Executive Director Ashley Sudds says the KTRA has long wanted to use the second arena on a more permanent basis but its surface was inappropriate for prolonged use.

Staff from FortisBC in Kamloops noticed a call for help and began organizing a fundraising and time-raising drive to help out.

It ended with a collaboration of groups resurfacing the riding arena last weekend.

Sudds says the project would have cost KTRA over $50,000, so she’s grateful for the help.

“It’s been really gratifying to see this all come together and have so many people want to help us out,” said Sudds. “We really appreciate the community spirit. It’s going to mean a lot to the people who we help every day.”
