KAMLOOPS — As we head into the weekend, there are 48 fires burning in the province, up 5 in the past two days.

Most of the fires, 25 of them, are burning in the southeast Fire Centre, 11 in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

The largest fire continues to be the Doctor Creek fire near Canal Flats in the Kootenays. It is estimated at just under 4600 hectares. It is an interface fire and an evacuation order is in effect. The Christie Mountain fire north of OK Falls is being held at just over 2100 hectares.

The B.C. Wildfire service reminds residents to be careful this weekend to ensure we keep human-caused fires to a minimum. The fire danger rating is generally medium in the Kamloops Fire Centre with a few areas having a high rating.
