Rain helps cool 37-hectare wildfire near Adams Lake

KAMLOOPS — Rain in the North Thompson is helping firefighters get the upper hand on a fire near the north end of Adams Lake.

Fire Information Officer Kyla Fraser says the Barriere Pass Forest Service Road fire is measured at 36.8 hectares Thursday (Aug. 20).

Fraser says it is still classified as ‘out of control’ but there are some positive signs.

“(It’s) burning at Rank 1 today, which essentially means it’s a smouldering ground fire. They did take a little bit of rain on that fire, so that’s, of course, helpful.”

While much of the Kamloops Fire Centre’s resources are focused on the Christie Mountain fire near Penticton that is threatening hundreds of homes, Fraser notes there is still plenty of attention for the Adams Lake-area fire.

“We have 40 firefighters and two helicopters working on that one and we have some fire origin and cause specialists out there looking into what may have started this wildfire.”
