KAMLOOPS — The owners of a well-known Kamloops salsa company say they have taken steps to deal with the impacts of a massive onion recall.

Seven Fresh is Best salsa varieties were included in a Canadian Food Inspection Agency recall issued August 7. The salsa varieties used U.S.-sourced onions recalled due to potential salmonella contamination.

The following varieties are included, with ‘best before’ dates prior to October 6:

  • Mild Fresh
  • Medium Fresh
  • Hot Fresh
  • Extra Hot Fresh
  • Salsa Fresca
  • Savory Southwest Black Bean and Corn
  • Tropical Fruit Salsa

No illnesses have been linked to Fresh is Best products. Any products with ‘best before’ dates on or later than October 6 are safe.

In a news release, owners Colin and Lisa McGaffin say they typically use B.C.-sourced products to make their salsas, but in this case, had to source onions from the U.S. because the B.C. supplier did not have enough stock.

Fresh is Best is offering coupons to any customers who had to dispose of salsa and who were not reimbursed by the store where they purchased the salsa.
