UPDATE: Fire ignites in Adams Lake area

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: The B.C. Wildfire Service says it is fighting the Gold Creek Forest Service Road fire, but the second fire was an unsubstantiated report. Investigating crews could not find a fire at that location.

EARLIER: The B.C. Wildfire Service is reporting a pair of new wildfires in the Adams Lake area.

According to Fire Information Officer Gagan Lidhran, both of the fires popped up Monday (Aug. 17) and are small.

The Gold Creek Forest Service Road wildfire is burning out of control about 6.8 kilometres northeast of Adams Lake. Lidhran says it only measures about 0.1 hectares, but the service would like to extinguish it quickly.

“We do have two initial attack crews en route, so that’s a total of six B.C. Wildfire Service personnel. We also have one helicopter and skimmers on site, as well. Currently, no structures are threatened.”

Lidhran notes a second fire, as yet as unnamed, is burning to the south, closer to Lee Creek. She says three personnel are en route to that fire.

The wildfire danger is moderate to high in most of the Kamloops Fire Centre, which means thunderstorm cells forecast to move through the area later today could start more fires.
