Forecasters predict near-record temperatures as for B.C. Interior this weekend

KAMLOOPS — A ridge of high pressure is approaching the B.C. Interior and forecasters says extremely high temperatures are expected as a result.

Environment Canada’s Carmen Hartt says Kamloops could see the mercury hit the high 30s by Sunday.

Hartt notes we may approach record territory.

“When we look back at the records, the records are in the high 30s for this time of year and there are quite a few dates when we experienced high 30s this time of year,” Hartt told CFJC Today. “It will be interesting to see if we break a record this weekend. It looks like we’re getting close but we might not quite make it, as the records are 38-to-40 (degrees).”

Hartt expects little relief overnight.

“We’ve got overnight lows in the high teens and that can actually cause a lot of problems as well. During the daytime, sometimes we’ll expect the heat and plan accordingly,” she said. “But at nightime, if you have air conditioning or if you have a fan, it’s definitely something you’re going to want to be using this weekend.”

Hartt adds anyone who has trouble with extreme heat should remain indoors in air conditioned areas and keep themselves hydrated.
