KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops family is singing the praises of the community after some good Samaritans worked to locate their stolen bikes and bike trailers.

The Seyfert family had spent $2,000 on the items, with plans for family bike rides this summer. The next day, they were stolen.

“We called the police immediately,” Lucas Seyfert said. “After calling the police, they showed up rather quickly, but there wasn’t much to go on because the security cameras where we live run on the internet, and it just so happened that the internet stopped working that night.”

The Seyfert’s took to social media, posting picture on the Kamloops Stolen Bikes Facebook page.

“Within a matter of I want to say four or five hours, we had received thousands of messages from Kamloops citizen and members of the bike page, just offering pictures or information of if they think is this your guys’ bikes, this is where they are.”

One of the members located one of the trailers and two of the bikes at Overlander Park.

“I drove over there and called the RCMP officer who was in charge of our file and told him that I’ve located the bikes and a bunch more people from the Kamloops Bike Page reached out and said that they would head over to Overlander Park and just stay there, be witnesses,” Seyfert said.

The following morning, the Seyferts found their second trailer for sale online.

“The owner of the Brazilian Dog Guru facility messaged us as well and said, ‘I’ve got my truck, let’s go over there and get your items back before they get sold.”

Seyfert says the people who had the stolen property were hesitant at first, but eventually it was all given back.

He says he is incredible grateful for the kindness of strangers who just wanted to help.

“Kamloops has definitely made me happy that I moved here. It’s also made me very proud to say that I’m a community member of Kamloops and that I will raise my children here.”
