Wildfire worries in Kamloops Fire Centre

Aug 2, 2020 | 1:12 PM

KAMLOOPS – Concern over potential wildfires is growing throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre. Hot dry weather has seen the fire danger rating grow from moderate to high through much of the region in the last week.

13 fires are burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre today (August 2). The largest is the Solco Creek wildfire, 27 kilometres northeast of Oliver. It has burned more than 13 hectares and is considered out of control.

The weather forecast is not favourable for those who fight wildfires. Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures to cool off only marginally next week. Highs in the Kamloops area are expected to be in the low 30s.

A fire ban remains in effect for the Kamloops Fire Centre. Small campfires are still allowed however, anything larger is banned including fireworks, sky lanterns and burn barrels.
