City crews begin work on closed trail at Kenna Cartwright Park

KAMLOOPS — City of Kamloops crews are currently working to improve drainage at a trail at Kenna Cartwright Park.

The trail, which begins near the Home Depot parking lot, has been closed since May due to slope stability concerns.

Now that there is a break in the rainy weather, crews are able to begin working to make the trail safe for pedestrians.

“The work that’s starting today (July 27) is some work just to help with the drainage,” said Engineering Manager Deven Matkowski, “so it’s some ditching along the trail, and then we’ll probably be regrading the trail a little bit in that area.”

The work is expected to take about two weeks to complete, and will help water drain off quicker next spring.

“Once this work’s done, the trail will open back up and people will be able to use it,” Matkowski said. “The park is open, I would like to mention that and there’s numerous ways to get into the park. So, please, feel free to enjoy the park, just not that section of the trail.”
