Canadian Chris Johnston vying for US$100,000 Bassmaster Elite top prize
The real fun has finally begun for Chris Johnston.
The 31-year-old native of Peterborough, Ont., was among 86 anglers — and three Canadians, including his older brother, Cory — vying for the US$100,000 top prize in the SiteOne Bassmaster Elite event at Clayton, N.Y. After days of scouting potential hotspots during practice, Johnston started trying to put fish in the boat Thursday to open the four-day tournament.
“Now is the fun part,” Johnston said during a telephone interview. “I put in the work during the week trying to find them.
“What people see on TV is how much fun we’re having catching fish but they don’t see the three 14-hour days you put in trying to find them.”
