PRITCHARD, B.C. — The provincial and federal governments are teaming up to fund a $5 million new water system in Pritchard.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) revealed Tuesday (July 21) it has received a Canada Infrastructure Program grant for the project, with about two-thirds of the $5 million project being funded by the federal government and the remaining one-third coming from the province.

In a news release, TNRD Area P Director Mel Rothenburger said water quality has been a major issue in Pritchard for years, thanks to conditions in the South Thompson River.

“They deserve good quality water and at last they’re going to get it,” said Rothenburger.

The funding will help build a river intake pumphouse, a new membrane filtration water treatment facility, primary and secondary disinfection as well as piping to the community.

Detailed engineering and design will take place this year with the goal of tendering a construction contract in 2021.
